They told God, ‘Leave us alone! What can the Almighty do for us?’

The wicked person boasts about his selfish desires. He blesses robbers, but he curses the Lord.

They have shut out all feeling. Their mouths have spoken arrogantly.

I said, “I will watch my ways so that I do not sin with my tongue. I will bridle my mouth while wicked people are in my presence.”

“The enemy said, ‘I’ll pursue them! I’ll catch up with them! I’ll divide the loot! I’ll take all I want! I’ll use my sword! I’ll take all they have!’

Pharaoh asked, “Who is the Lord? Why should I obey him and let Israel go? I don’t know the Lord, and I won’t let Israel go.”

Careless words stab like a sword, but the words of wise people bring healing.

The tongues of wise people give good expression to knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out a flood of stupidity.

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love to talk will have to eat their own words.

Without wood a fire goes out, and without gossip a quarrel dies down.

Then they said, “Let’s plot against Jeremiah, because the teachings of the priests, the advice of wise people, and the word of the prophets won’t disappear. Accuse him! Pay no attention to anything he says.”

“Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: In your arrogance you say, “I’m a god. I sit on God’s throne in the sea.” But you’re only human and not a god, although you think you are a god.

Tell him, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: I’m against you, Pharaoh, king of Egypt. You are like a monster crocodile lying in the Nile River. You say, “The Nile River is mine. I made it for myself.”

When you hear the sound of the rams’ horns, flutes, lyres, harps, and three-stringed harps playing at the same time with all other kinds of instruments, will you bow down and worship the gold statue I made? If you don’t worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace. What god can save you from my power then?”

The king thought, “Look how great Babylon is! I built the royal palace by my own impressive power and for my glorious honor.”

The same thing is true for ships. They are very big and are driven by strong winds. Yet, by using small rudders, pilots steer ships wherever they want them to go.

They arrogantly use nonsense to seduce people by appealing to their sexual desires, especially to sexual freedom. They seduce people who have just escaped from those who live in error.

These people complain, find fault, follow their own desires, say arrogant things, and flatter people in order to take advantage of them.
