They will pass through the land when they are hard-pressed and hungry. When they are hungry, they will be furious. Then they will look up, cursing their king and God.

On the ninth day of the fourth  month, the famine in the city became so severe that the common people had no food.

While he was still talking to them, the messenger arrived. He said to Elisha, “This severe famine is from the Lord. Why should I wait any longer for the Lord ⌞to help us⌟?”

But now stretch out your hand, and strike everything he has. I bet he’ll curse you to your face.”

Hunger undermines his strength. Disaster is waiting beside him.

But stretch out your hand, and strike his flesh and bones. I bet he’ll curse you to your face.”

His wife asked him, “Are you still holding on to your principles? Curse God and die!”

“Never show disrespect for God or curse a leader of your people.

The stupidity of a person turns his life upside down, and his heart rages against the Lord.

The poorest of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety. But I will put your root to death with famine and kill off your survivors.

Twice as many disasters have happened to you. Who will feel sorry for you? Violence, destruction, famine, and war have happened to you. Who will comfort you?

That is why justice is far from us, and righteousness doesn’t reach us. We hope for light, but we walk in darkness. We hope for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

This is what the Lord God says: My servants will eat, but you will be hungry. My servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. My servants will be glad, but you will be ashamed.

On the right, one gobbles up food and is still hungry. On the left, another eats and is never full. Each person eats the flesh from his own arm.

Manasseh is against Ephraim. Ephraim is against Manasseh. Together they attack Judah. Even after all this, his anger will not disappear, and he is still ready to use his power.

If I go to the field, I see those killed because of war. If I go to the city, I see those sick because of famine. Prophets and priests wander through a land they haven’t heard of.

On the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine in the city became so severe that the common people had no food.

The Israelite woman’s son began cursing the Lord’s name and treating it with contempt. So they brought him to Moses.

“When that day comes, you will cry out because of the king whom you have chosen for yourselves. The Lord will not answer you when that day comes.”
