But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words, and made fun of his prophets until the Lord became angry with his people. He could no longer heal them.

The Lord declares, “How horrible it will be for those rebellious children. They carry out plans, but not mine. They make alliances against my will. They pile sin on top of sin.

These people are rebellious and deceitful children, children who refuse to listen to the Lord’s teachings.

Whom are you defying and slandering? Against whom are you shouting? Who are you looking at so arrogantly? It is the Holy One of Israel!

Since you rage against me and your boasting has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your mouth. I will make you go back the way you came.

You have never heard about them. You have never known about them. Your ears have never been open to hear them before. I know that you’ve acted very treacherously and that you have been called a rebel since you were born.

You burn with lust under oak trees and under every large tree. You slaughter children in the valleys and under the cracks in the rocks.

Each time I speak, I have to cry out and shout, “Violence and destruction!” The Lord’s word has made me the object of insults and contempt all day long.

I am sending you to these defiant and stubborn children. Tell them, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says.’

The field is the world. The good seeds are those who belong to the kingdom. The weeds are those who belong to the evil one.

Don’t let anyone deceive you with meaningless words. It is because of sins like these that God’s anger comes to those who refuse to obey him.
