When peace comes, everyone who has lived honestly will rest on his own bed.

When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him. He said to Abram, “I am God Almighty. Live in my presence with integrity.

They buried him in the tomb that he had prepared for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a bed full of spices and blended perfumes. And they burned a bonfire in his honor.

There the wicked stop their raging. There the weary are able to rest.

Notice the innocent person, and look at the decent person, because the peacemaker has a future.

Then the dust ⌞of mortals⌟ goes back to the ground as it was before, and the breath of life goes back to God who gave it.

All the kings of the nations, all of them, have been buried with honor, each in his own tomb.

The path of the righteous is level. O Upright One, you make the road of the righteous smooth.

This is what the Lord says: Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask which paths are the old, reliable paths. Ask which way leads to blessings. Live that way, and find a resting place for yourselves. But you said that you wouldn’t live that way.

A bed has been made for Elam among the dead. The graves of its soldiers are all around it. The soldiers were godless people. They were killed in battle because they terrified others in the land of the living. Now they suffer disgrace with those who have gone down to the pit. They lie among the dead.

But go on until the end. You will rest, and you will rise for your inheritance at the end of time.”

“His master replied, ‘Good job! You’re a good and faithful servant! You proved that you could be trusted with a small amount. I will put you in charge of a large amount. Come and share your master’s happiness.’

Zechariah and Elizabeth had God’s approval. They followed all the Lord’s commands and regulations perfectly.

“One day the beggar died, and the angels carried him to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.

“Now, Lord, you are allowing your servant to leave in peace as you promised.

Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace!”

We know that if the life we live here on earth is ever taken down like a tent, we still have a building from God. It is an eternal house in heaven that isn’t made by human hands.

We are confident and prefer to live away from this body and to live with the Lord.

I find it hard to choose between the two. I would like to leave this life and be with Christ. That’s by far the better choice.

I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: From now on those who die believing in the Lord are blessed.” “Yes,” says the Spirit. “Let them rest from their hard work. What they have done goes with them.”
