None of them grow tired or stumble. None of them slumber or sleep. The belts on their waists aren’t loose or their sandal straps broken.

“You know what Joab (Zeruiah’s son) did to me and to the two commanders of Israel’s army—Abner, son of Ner, and Amasa, son of Jether. Joab killed them. When there was peace, he shed blood as if it were wartime. With their blood he stained the belt around his waist and the shoes on his feet.

He loosens kings’ belts and strips them of their pants.

He pours contempt on influential people and unbuckles the belt of the mighty.

God arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.

The Lord rules as king! He is clothed with majesty. The Lord has clothed himself; he has armed himself with power. The world was set in place; it cannot be moved.

Justice will be the belt around his waist. Faithfulness will be the belt around his hips.

Then the king turned pale, and his thoughts frightened him. His hip joints became loose, and his knees knocked against each other.

John wore clothes made from camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His diet consisted of locusts and wild honey.

Foreign wars will kill off their children, and even at home there will be horrors. Young men and young women alike will die as well as nursing babies and gray-haired men.
