That’s why the anger of the Lord burns hot against his people, and he is ready to use his power to strike them down. The hills tremble, and dead bodies lie like garbage in the streets. Even after all this, his anger has not disappeared, and he is still ready to use his power.

“I will devise four ways to punish them,” declares the Lord. “I will send swords to kill, dogs to drag away, and birds and animals to devour and destroy.

They will die horrible deaths. No one will mourn for them or bury them. They will be like manure on the ground. Wars and famines will bring them to an end. Their bodies will be food for birds and animals.

You will lose the inheritance that I gave you. I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you haven’t heard of. I will do this because you have stirred up the fire of my anger. It will burn forever.

I see the mountains. They are shaking, and the hills are swaying.

So put on sackcloth, mourn, and cry because the Lord’s burning anger hasn’t turned away from us.

Their households, their fields, and their wives will be turned over to others. I will use my power against those who live in the land,” declares the Lord.

They will be spread out and exposed to the sun, the moon, and all the stars in the sky. These are the things that they had loved, served, gone after, sought, and worshiped. Their bones will not be gathered or buried, but they will become manure on the ground.

This is what the Lord says: Dead bodies will fall like manure on the field. They will be like grain that has been cut but not gathered.

unless you have completely rejected us ⌞and⌟ are very angry with us.”

“So this is what the Almighty Lord says: As a vine is taken from among the trees in the forest to be used to feed the fire, so I will take the people who live in Jerusalem to punish them.

I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but Pharaoh’s arms will fall. Then they will know that I am the Lord, because I will put my sword in the hand of the king of Babylon. He will strike Egypt with it.

I will use my power against them and destroy the land, from the desert to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’ ”

Lord, since you are very righteous, turn your anger and fury away from your city, Jerusalem, your holy mountain. Jerusalem and your people are insulted by everyone around us because of our sins and the wicked things our ancestors did.

⌞The Lord says,⌟ “I will cure them of their unfaithfulness. I will love them freely. I will no longer be angry with them.

The land will tremble because of this. Everyone who lives in it will mourn. The entire land will rise like the Nile, be tossed about, and then sink like Egypt’s river.

Mountains will melt under him like wax near a fire. Valleys will split apart like water pouring down a steep hill.

The mountains quake because of him. The hills melt. The earth draws back in his presence. The world and all who live in it draw back as well.

The mountains look at you. They writhe in pain. Floodwaters pass by. The deep ocean roars. Its waves rise up high.

“I will bring such distress on humans that they will walk like they are blind, because they have sinned against the Lord.” Their blood will be poured out like dust and their intestines like manure.

On that day I will become angry with them. I will abandon them and turn away from them. They will be destroyed, and many terrible disasters will happen to them. On that day they will ask, ‘Haven’t these disasters happened to us because our God isn’t with us?’

On that day I will certainly turn away from them because of all the evil they’ve done in turning to other gods.

because they try to keep us from telling people who are not Jewish how they can be saved. The result is that those Jews always commit as many sins as possible. So at last they are receiving ⌞God’s⌟ anger.

I saw a large, white throne and the one who was sitting on it. The earth and the sky fled from his presence, but no place was found for them.
