Isaiah 49:7

God's Word

The Lord is the defender of Israel, its Holy One. This is what the Lord says to the despised one, to the one scorned by the nation, to the slave of rulers: Kings will see ⌞you⌟ and stand. Princes will see ⌞you⌟ and bow. The Lord is faithful. The Holy One of Israel has chosen you.

May nations serve you. May people bow down to you. Be the master of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed. May those who bless you be blessed.”

The influential people from the nations gather together as the people of the God of Abraham. The rulers of the earth belong to God. He rules everything.

Ambassadors will come from Egypt. Sudan will stretch out its hands to God ⌞in prayer⌟.

You know that I have been insulted, put to shame, and humiliated. All my opponents are in front of you.

The Lord will have compassion for Jacob and again choose Israel. He will resettle them in their own country. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob.

So the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians. The Egyptians will know the Lord when that day comes. They will worship with sacrifices and food offerings. They will make vows to the Lord and carry them out.

When that day comes, a highway will run from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will come to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.

On that day a ram’s horn will be blown loudly. Those who are dying in Assyria and those who are banished to Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.

Here is my servant, whom I support. Here is my chosen one, with whom I am pleased. I have put my Spirit on him. He will bring justice to the nations.

This is what the Lord, your Defender, the Holy One of Israel, says: I am the Lord your God. I teach you what is best for you. I lead you where you should go.

They are created now, not in the past. You haven’t heard about them before today, so you can’t say that you already knew about them.

Listen to me, you islands. Pay attention, you people far away. Before I was born, the Lord chose me. While I was in my mother’s womb, he recorded my name.

Then kings will be your foster fathers, and their queens will nurse you. They will bow in front of you with their faces touching the ground. They will lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord. Those who wait with hope for me will not be put to shame.

I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh, and they will become drunk on their own blood as though it were new wine. Then all humanity will know that I am the Lord, who saves you, the Mighty One of Jacob, who reclaims you.

I will offer my back to those who whip me and my cheeks to those who pluck hairs out of my beard. I will not turn my face away from those who humiliate me and spit on me.

He will cleanse many nations ⌞with his blood⌟. Kings will shut their mouths because of him. They will see things that they had never been told. They will understand things that they had never heard.

He was despised and rejected by people. He was a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering. He was despised like one from whom people turn their faces, and we didn’t consider him to be worth anything.

“Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. In my anger I struck you, but in my favor I have compassion on you.

You will drink milk from other nations and nurse at royal breasts. Then you will know that I am the Lord, your Savior, the Mighty One of Jacob, your Defender.

Nations will come to your light, and kings will come to the brightness of your dawn.

From one month to the next and from one week to the next all people will come to worship me,” declares the Lord.

I got rid of three shepherds in one month. I became impatient with the sheep, and they also became disgusted with me.

It’s the same way with the Son of Man. He didn’t come so that others could serve him. He came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people.”

Then they spit in his face, hit him with their fists, and some of them slapped him.

Who’s the greatest, the person who sits at the table or the servant? Isn’t it really the person who sits at the table? But I’m among you as a servant.

The whole crowd then shouted, “Take him away! Free Barabbas for us.”

But the crowd pressured Pilate. They shouted that Jesus had to be crucified, and they finally won.

The people stood there watching. But the rulers were making sarcastic remarks. They said, “He saved others. If he’s the Messiah that God has chosen, let him save himself!”

The Jews shouted again, “Don’t free this man! Free Barabbas!” (Barabbas was a political revolutionary.)

Then the Jews shouted, “Kill him! Kill him! Crucify him!” Pilate asked them, “Should I crucify your king?” The chief priests responded, “The emperor is the only king we have!”

When the chief priests and the guards saw Jesus, they shouted, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate told them, “You take him and crucify him. I don’t find this man guilty of anything.”

God faithfully keeps his promises. He called you to be partners with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Keep in mind that the Lord your God is ⌞the only⌟ God. He is a faithful God, who keeps his promise  and is merciful to thousands of generations of those who love him and obey his commands.

You are coming to Christ, the living stone who was rejected by humans but was chosen as precious by God.

When the seventh angel blew his trumpet, there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will rule as king forever and ever.”

“To the messenger of the church in Philadelphia, write: The one who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens ⌞a door⌟ that no one can shut, and who shuts ⌞a door⌟ that no one can open, says:
