Sing with joy, you heavens! Rejoice, you earth! Break into shouts of joy, you mountains! The Lord has comforted his people and will have compassion on his humble people.

Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad. Say to the nations, ‘The Lord rules as king!’

Let heaven and earth, the seas, and everything that moves in them, praise him.

Sing with joy, you heavens, because the Lord has done this. Rejoice, you deep places of the earth. Break into shouts of joy, you mountains, you forests and every tree in them. The Lord has reclaimed Jacob. He will display his glory in Israel.

Leave Babylon; flee from the Babylonians! Shout for joy as you tell it and announce it. Shout it out to the ends of the earth. Say that the Lord has reclaimed his servant Jacob.

But Zion said, “The Lord has abandoned me. My Lord has forgotten me.”

I alone am the one who comforts you. Why, then, are you afraid of mortals, who must die, of humans, who are like grass?

So the Lord will comfort Zion. He will comfort all those who live among its ruins. He will make its desert like Eden. He will make its wilderness like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

Break out into shouts of joy, ruins of Jerusalem. The Lord will comfort his people. He will reclaim Jerusalem.

“I abandoned you for one brief moment, but I will bring you back with unlimited compassion.

I hid my face from you for a moment in a burst of anger, but I will have compassion on you with everlasting kindness,” says the Lord your defender.

You will go out with joy and be led out in peace. The mountains and the hills will break into songs of joy in your presence, and all the trees will clap their hands.

Then young women will rejoice and dance along with young men and old men. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them. I will give them joy in place of their sorrow.

Then heaven and earth and everything in them will rejoice over Babylon, because destroyers from the north will attack it,” declares the Lord.

“ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: The whole earth will be glad when I turn you into a wasteland.

So I can guarantee that God’s angels are happy about one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts.”

Yet God, who comforts those who are dejected, comforted us when Titus arrived.
