Isaiah 42:5

God's Word

The Lord God created the heavens and stretched them out. He shaped the earth and all that comes from it. He gave life to the people who are on it and breath to those who walk on it. This is what the Lord God says:

In the beginning God created heaven and earth.

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the earth  and blew the breath of life into his nostrils. The man became a living being.

The life of every living creature and the spirit in every human body are in his hands.

‘As long as there is one breath ⌞left⌟ in me and God’s breath fills my nostrils,

“God’s Spirit has made me. The breath of the Almighty gives me life.

If he thought only of himself and withdrew his Spirit and his breath,

to the one who spread out the earth on the water— because his mercy endures forever.

The heavens were made by the Lord’s word and all the stars by the breath of his mouth.

because all the gods of the nations are idols. The Lord made the heavens.

“Lord of Armies, God of Israel, you are enthroned over the angels. You alone are God of the kingdoms of the world. You made heaven and earth.

Who has measured the water of the sea  with the palm of his hand or measured the sky with the length of his hand? Who has held the dust of the earth in a bushel basket or weighed the mountains on a scale and the hills on a balance?

God is enthroned above the earth, and those who live on it are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the sky like a canopy and spreads it out like a tent to live in.

Look at the sky and see. Who created these things? Who brings out the stars one by one? He calls them all by name. Because of the greatness of his might and the strength of his power, not one of them is missing.

Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The eternal God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn’t grow tired or become weary. His understanding is beyond reach.

The Lord reclaimed you. He formed you in the womb. This is what the Lord says: I, the Lord, made everything. I stretched out the heavens by myself. I spread out the earth all alone.

I made the earth and created humans on it. I stretched out the heavens with my own hands. I commanded all the stars ⌞to shine⌟.

The Lord created the heavens. God formed the earth and made it. He set it up. He did not create it to be empty but formed it to be inhabited. This is what the Lord says: I am the Lord, and there is no other.

My hand laid the foundation of the earth. My right hand stretched out the heavens. When I call for them, they both stand.

I will not accuse you forever. I will not be angry with you forever. Otherwise, the spirits, the lives of those I’ve made, would grow faint in my presence.

The Lord made the earth by his power. He set up the world by his skill. He stretched out the world by his understanding.

‘I used my great strength and my powerful arm to make the earth along with the people and the animals on it. I give it to anyone I please.

‘Almighty Lord, you made heaven and earth by your great strength and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

So King Zedekiah secretly swore an oath to Jeremiah, “The Lord gave us life. As the Lord lives, I will not kill you or hand you over to these men who want to kill you.”

The life of every person belongs to me. Fathers and their children belong to me. The person who sins will die.

But you made yourself greater than the Lord of heaven. You had the utensils from his temple brought to you. You, your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them. You praised your gods made of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, or stone. These gods can’t see, hear, or know anything. You didn’t honor God, who has power over your life and everything you do.

The one who builds stairs up to heaven and sets their foundation on the earth, the one who calls for the water in the sea and pours it over the face of the earth— His name is the Lord.

This is the prophetic revelation, the Lord’s word about Israel. The Lord—who spread out the heavens, laid the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit in a person—says,

The God who made the universe and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth. He doesn’t live in shrines made by humans,

and he isn’t served by humans as if he needed anything. He gives everyone life, breath, and everything they have.

In these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. God made his Son responsible for everything. His Son is the one through whom God made the universe.
