The desert and the dry land will be glad, and the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.

Let Mount Zion be glad and the cities of Judah rejoice because of your judgments.

Let the fields and everything in them rejoice. Then all the trees in the forest will sing joyfully

Zion hears about this and rejoices. The people of Judah are delighted with your judgments, O Lord.

I am a rose of Sharon, a lily ⌞growing⌟ in the valleys.

On that day ⌞his people⌟ will say, “This is our God; we have waited for him, and now he will save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him. Let us rejoice and be glad because he will save us.”

The fortified city is isolated. The homestead is left deserted, abandoned like the desert. Calves will graze there. They will lie down. They will feed on the branches.

In times to come Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom, bud, and fill the whole world with fruit.

In a very short time Lebanon will be turned into a fertile field and the fertile field will be considered a forest.

Then those who are lame will leap like deer, and those who cannot speak will shout for joy. Water will gush out into the desert, and streams will gush out into the wilderness.

When that day comes, the branch of the Lord will be beautiful and wonderful. The fruit of the land will be the pride and joy of Israel’s survivors.

A voice cries out in the desert: “Clear a way for the Lord. Make a straight highway in the wilderness for our God.

Let those who live in the desert and its cities raise their voices. Let those who live in the settlements of Kedar praise him. Let those who live in Sela sing for joy. Let them shout from the tops of the mountains.

I am going to do something new. It is already happening. Don’t you recognize it? I will clear a way in the desert. I will make rivers on dry land.

So the Lord will comfort Zion. He will comfort all those who live among its ruins. He will make its desert like Eden. He will make its wilderness like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

I asked, “How long, O Lord?” And he replied, “Until the cities lie in ruins with no one living in them, the houses have no people, and the land is completely desolate.

On that day a person will keep alive a young cow and two sheep.

People will say, “This wasteland has become like the garden of Eden. The cities were destroyed. They were empty and ruined, but now they are fortified and have people living in them.”
