God's Word

You will live in Zion, in Jerusalem. You won’t cry anymore. The Lord will certainly have pity on you when you cry for help. As soon as he hears you, he will answer you.

The Almighty Lord of Armies says: My people who live in Zion, don’t be afraid of the Assyrians when they strike with a rod or when they raise their staff against you as the Egyptians did.

He will swallow up death forever. The Almighty Lord will wipe away tears from every face, and he will remove the disgrace of his people from the whole earth. The Lord has spoken.

O Lord, have pity on us. We wait with hope for you. Be our strength in the morning. Yes, be our savior in times of trouble.

The people ransomed by the Lord will return. They will come to Zion singing with joy. Everlasting happiness will be on their heads ⌞as a crown⌟. They will be glad and joyful. They will have no sorrow or grief.

“The poor and needy are looking for water, but there is none. Their tongues are parched with thirst. I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not abandon them.

I’ll bring my righteousness near; it isn’t far away. My salvation will not be delayed. I’ll provide salvation for Zion and bring my glory to Israel.

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say, “Here I am!” Get rid of that yoke. Don’t point your finger and say wicked things.

Your sun will no longer go down, nor will your moon disappear. The Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sadness will be over.

Be glad, and rejoice forever in what I’m going to create, because I’m going to create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people to be a joy.

I will rejoice about Jerusalem and be glad about my people. Screaming and crying will no longer be heard in the city.

Before they call, I will answer. While they’re still speaking, I will hear.

I will bring ⌞with me⌟ Jacob’s descendant, one who will inherit my mountains from Judah. My chosen ones will inherit them. My servants will live there.

“This is what the Lord says: Your wound is incurable. Your injury is beyond healing.

They will come and shout for joy on top of Mount Zion. They will stream to it to enjoy the Lord’s blessings: fresh grain, new wine, and olive oil, lambs and calves. Their lives will be like well-watered gardens, and they will never suffer again.

This is what the Lord says: Stop your crying, and wipe away your tears. You will be rewarded for your work, declares the Lord. You will return from the land of the enemy.

There will be a day when watchmen on the mountains of Ephraim will call out this message: ‘Arise! Let’s go to Zion, to the Lord our God.’ ”

They will cry as they return. They will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams on a level path where they will not stumble. I will be a Father to Israel, and Ephraim will be my firstborn.

Call to me, and I will answer you. I will tell you great and mysterious things that you do not know.

Listen! Fugitives and refugees from Babylon are coming to Zion to tell about the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance for his temple.

The Lord has brought about our victory. Let’s announce in Zion what the Lord our God has done.

“ ‘The entire nation of Israel, everyone in the land, will worship me on my holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Almighty Lord. There I will accept you. There I will look for your offerings, your best gifts, and all your holy gifts.

“This is what the Almighty Lord says: I will also let the people of Israel ask me to make them as numerous as sheep.

Now why are you crying so loudly? Don’t you have a king? Has your counselor died? Pain grips you like a woman in labor.

Blessed are those who are hungry. They will be satisfied. Blessed are those who are crying. They will laugh.

In this way Israel as a whole will be saved, as Scripture says, “The Savior will come from Zion. He will remove godlessness from Jacob.

Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.

I cried bitterly because no one was found who deserved to open the scroll or look inside it.

The lamb in the center near the throne will be their shepherd. He will lead them to springs filled with the water of life, and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”
