Does God correct you and bring you into a court of law because you fear him?

At dawn murderers rise; they kill the poor and needy. At night they become thieves.

“⌞People⌟ snatch the ⌞nursing⌟ orphan from a breast and take a poor woman’s baby as security for a loan.

He doesn’t have to set a time for a person in order to bring him to divine judgment.

He lies in his hiding place like a lion in his den. He hides there to catch oppressed people. He catches oppressed people when he draws them into his net.

Are all those troublemakers, those who devour my people as if they were devouring food, so ignorant that they do not call on the Lord?

Do not take me to court for judgment, because there is no one alive who is righteous in your presence.

A certain kind of person, whose teeth are like swords and whose jaws are ⌞like⌟ knives, devours oppressed people from the earth and people from among humanity.

How horrible it will be for those who make unjust laws and who make oppressive regulations.

They deprive the poor of justice. They take away the rights of the needy among my people. They prey on widows and rob orphans.

He will judge the poor justly. He will make fair decisions for the humble people on earth. He will strike the earth with a rod from his mouth. He will kill the wicked with the breath from his lips.

The poorest of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety. But I will put your root to death with famine and kill off your survivors.

Feet trample it, the feet of the oppressed, the footsteps of the poor.

Humble people again will find joy in the Lord. The poorest of people will find joy in the Holy One of Israel.

This is what the Holy One of Israel says: You have rejected this warning, trusted oppression and deceit, and leaned on them.

The vineyard of the Lord of Armies is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the garden of his delight. He hoped for justice but saw only slaughter, for righteousness but heard only cries of distress.

Don’t you see that when you fast, you quarrel and fight and beat your workers? The way you fast today keeps you from being heard in heaven.

Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard. They’ve trampled my property. They’ve turned my pleasant property into a wasteland.

Like cages filled with birds, their houses are filled with deceit. That is why they become powerful and rich.

He oppresses the poor and needy. He robs. He doesn’t return the security for a loan. He looks to idols for help. He does disgusting things.

I will bring you into the desert of the nations. There I will put you on trial face to face.

I will put you on trial as I put your ancestors on trial in the desert of Egypt, declares the Almighty Lord.

If you sell anything to your neighbor or buy anything from him, don’t take advantage of him.

Never take advantage of each other. Fear your God, because I am the Lord your God.

They stomp the heads of the poor into the dust. They push the humble out of the way. Father and son sleep with the same woman. They dishonor my holy name.

Listen to this message, you cows of Bashan who live on Mount Samaria. You women oppress the poor and abuse the needy. You say to your husbands, “Get some wine! Let’s drink!”

How horrible it will be for those who invent trouble and work out plans for disaster while in bed. When the morning dawns, they carry out their plans because they are able to.

They desire ⌞other people’s⌟ fields, so they seize them. They desire ⌞people’s⌟ houses, so they take them. They cheat a man and his family, a man and his inheritance.

You eat my people’s flesh. You strip off their skin. You break their bones to pieces. You chop them up like meat for a pot, like stew meat for a kettle.

I have cursed all the wicked people who use their money for evil and use inaccurate weights and measures.

“Listen to another illustration. A landowner planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, made a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to vineyard workers and went on a trip.

Yet, you show no respect to poor people. Don’t rich people oppress you and drag you into court?
