Isaiah 21:1

God's Word

This is the divine revelation about the desert by the sea. Like a storm sweeping through the Negev, an invader will come from the desert, from a terrifying land.

A storm comes out of its chamber. It is cold because of the strong winds.

This is the divine revelation which Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw about Babylon.

I will make heaven tremble, and the earth will be shaken from its place when the Lord of Armies is angry. At that time he will be very angry.

The Lord will have compassion for Jacob and again choose Israel. He will resettle them in their own country. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob.

I’ll go above the top of the clouds. I’ll be like the Most High.”

“It will become the possession of herons. It will become pools of water. I’ll sweep it with the broom of destruction,” declares the Lord of Armies.

This is the divine revelation about Damascus. “Damascus will no longer be a city. It will become a pile of rubble.

Go, sit in the dirt, virgin princess of Babylon! Sit on the ground, not on a throne, princess of the Babylonians! You will no longer be called soft and delicate.

Their arrows are sharpened; all their bows are ready to shoot. Their horses’ hoofs are as hard as flint. Their chariot wheels are as quick as the wind.

This is what the Lord says: I will stir up a destructive wind against Babylon and against the people who live in Leb Kamai.

What a horrifying sight Babylon will be to the nations! The sea will rise over Babylon, and its roaring waves will cover it.

We have been put to shame, and we have been disgraced. Shame covers our faces, because foreigners have gone into the holy places of the Lord’s temple.

As I looked, I saw a storm coming from the north. There was an immense cloud with flashing lightning surrounded by a bright light. The middle of the lightning looked like glowing metal.

He and his troops, the most ruthless troops among the nations, will be brought to destroy the land. They will draw their swords to attack Egypt and fill the land with dead bodies.

Foreigners from the most ruthless nation cut it down and threw it away. Its branches fell on the mountains and in every valley. Its broken branches fell in every ravine in the land. All the nations in the world came out from under its shade and left.

You will attack like a storm and cover the land like a cloud. Your troops and the many armies will be with you.

“In the end times the southern king will attack him. The northern king will rush at him like a storm with chariots, horses, and many ships. He will invade countries, overwhelm them, and pass through their land.

The Lord will appear over them, and his arrow will go out like lightning. The Almighty Lord will blow the ram’s horn and will march in the storms from the south.
