“A disaster from God terrifies me. In the presence of his majesty I can do nothing.

Hide them completely in the dust, and cover their faces in the hidden place.

in order to make known your mighty deeds and the glorious honor of your kingdom.

Who fully understands the power of your anger? A person fears you more when he better understands your fury.

What will you do on the day you are called to account ⌞for these things⌟, when the disaster comes from far away? Where will you run for help? Where will you leave your wealth?

The Moabites will stretch out their hands in the manure like swimmers who stretch out their hands to swim. ⌞The Lord⌟ will humble those arrogant people despite the movements of their hands.

But these people are robbed and looted. They are all trapped in pits and hidden in prisons. They have become prey with no one to rescue them. They have become loot with no one to say, “Give it back.”

But the Lord is the only God. He is the living God and eternal king. The earth trembles when he is angry. The nations can’t endure his fury.

Everyone fears you, O King of the Nations. This is what you deserve. No one is like you among all the wise people in the nations or in all their kingdoms.

“This is what the Lord says: This is how I will destroy Judah’s arrogance and Jerusalem’s extreme arrogance.

The illegal worship sites of Aven will be destroyed. Israel sins there. Thorns and weeds will grow over those altars. People will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”

Even you, Nineveh, will stagger like a drunk. You will disappear. Even you will look for a fortress ⌞to escape⌟ from the enemy.

I’ll show you the one you should be afraid of. Be afraid of the one who has the power to throw you into hell after killing you. I’m warning you to be afraid of him.

Then people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’

They will pay the penalty by being destroyed forever, by being separated from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious power.
