But you are thrown out of your tomb like a rejected branch. You are covered with those who were killed in battle. You go down to the stones of the pit like a trampled corpse.

That’s why the anger of the Lord burns hot against his people, and he is ready to use his power to strike them down. The hills tremble, and dead bodies lie like garbage in the streets. Even after all this, his anger has not disappeared, and he is still ready to use his power.

“Old and young alike will die in this land. No one will mourn for them or bury them. No one will cut his own body or shave his own head for them.

He will receive a donkey’s burial. He will be dragged off and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.

When they came into the city, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and his men slaughtered them and threw them into a cistern.

Now, the cistern where Ishmael threw all the bodies of the men he had killed was the same one that King Asa made as a part of his defense against King Baasha of Israel. Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, filled it with the bodies.

Babylon’s soldiers will fall down badly wounded in their streets. They will lie dead in their own land.

Their graves are in the deepest parts of the pit. Assyria’s army lies around its grave. All of its soldiers are dead. They have been killed in battle. They once terrified people in the land of the living.

They don’t lie with the godless warriors who died and went down to the grave with their weapons of war. Their swords were placed under their heads. Their shields were placed on their bones because they terrified others in the land of the living.
