God's Word

At that time the Lord will use his power again to recover what remains of his people in Assyria, Upper and Lower Egypt, Sudan, Elam, Babylonia, Hamath, and the islands of the sea.

The first ⌞cities⌟ in his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh in Shinar [Babylonia].

Shem’s descendants were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

As people moved toward the east, they found a plain in Shinar [Babylonia] and settled there.

At that time ⌞four kings⌟—King Amraphel of Shinar, King Arioch of Ellasar, King Chedorlaomer of Elam, and King Tidal of Goiim—

The name of the second river is Gihon. This is the one that winds throughout Sudan.

The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim and settled them in the cities of Samaria in place of the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived in its cities.

King Xerxes levied a tax on the country and the islands of the sea.

The Lord said, “I will bring them back from Bashan. I will bring them back from the depths of the sea

If the Lord of Armies hadn’t left us a few survivors, we would have been like Sodom and Gomorrah.

At that time the remaining few Israelites, the survivors of Jacob’s descendants will no longer depend on the one who struck them. They will only depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.

Isn’t Calno like Carchemish? Isn’t Hamath like Arpad? Isn’t Samaria like Damascus?’

There will be a highway for the remaining few of his people left in Assyria like there was for Israel when it came out of Egypt.

So the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians. The Egyptians will know the Lord when that day comes. They will worship with sacrifices and food offerings. They will make vows to the Lord and carry them out.

The Lord will strike Egypt with a plague. When he strikes them, he will also heal them. Then they will come back to the Lord. And he will respond to their prayers and heal them.

I was shown a harsh vision. The traitor betrays. The destroyer destroys. Go to war, Elam! Surround them, Media! I will put an end to all the groaning.

Elam takes its quiver of arrows, manned chariots, and horsemen. Kir uncovers its shields.

Honor the Lord in the east. Honor the name of the Lord God of Israel along the coastlands.

Those few people from the nation of Judah who escape will again take root and produce crops.

Sing a new song to the Lord. Sing his praise from the ends of the earth, you people who sail on the seas and all the creatures that live in them, you coastlands and all who live on them.

Let them give glory to the Lord and announce his praise on the coastlands.

He will not be discouraged or crushed until he has set up justice on the earth. The coastlands will wait for his teachings.

This is what the Lord says: The products from Egypt, the merchandise from Sudan, and the important Sabaeans will come to you. They will belong to you. They will follow you. They will come to you in chains. They will bow to you and pray to you, “Certainly God is with you alone, and there is no other God.”

They will come from far away. They will come from the north and from the west, and they will come from the land of Sinim.

I will set up a sign among them and send some of their survivors to the nations: to Tarshish, Put and Lud, Meshech, Rosh, Tubal, Javan, and to the distant coastlands who have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will tell about my glory among the nations.

all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;

“You nations, listen to the Lord’s word. Tell it to the distant islands. Say, ‘The one who scattered the people of Israel will gather them and watch over them as a shepherd watches over his flock.’

The Lord spoke his word to Jeremiah about all the Jews living in Egypt at Migdol, Tahpanhes, Noph, and Pathros.

This is a message about Damascus. “Hamath and Arpad are worried because they heard the bad news. They melt in fear. They are troubled like a sea that can’t be calmed.

They made your oars from oaks in Bashan. They made your deck from pine trees on the shores of Cyprus. It had ivory set in it.

I will bring back the Egyptian captives and return them to Pathros, the land they came from. There they will be a weak kingdom.

I will destroy Pathros, set fire to Zoan, and bring punishment on Thebes.

“Elam is there with all its soldiers, and the graves of its soldiers are all around it. All of its soldiers are dead. They have been killed in battle. They went down below the earth as godless people. They once terrified people in the land of the living. Now they suffer disgrace with those who have gone down to the pit.

After a long time you will be called to service. In the years to come, you will attack a land that has been rebuilt after a war. Its people have been gathered from many nations and brought to the mountains of Israel, mountains that have been ruined for a long time. These people were brought there from the nations, and all of them live there safely.

The Lord handed King Jehoiakim of Judah and some utensils from God’s temple over to Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar took the utensils to the temple of his god in Babylonia and put them in the temple treasury.

Then he will turn his attention to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will silence the insults that the northern king makes and even insult him.

In my vision I saw myself in the fortress of Susa in the province of Elam. In my vision I saw myself at Ulai Gate.

The people of Judah and Israel will be gathered together. They will appoint one leader for themselves, and they will grow in the land. The day of Jezreel will be a great day.

“My people will follow me when I roar like a lion. When I roar, my children will come trembling from the west.

They will come trembling like birds from Egypt and like doves from Assyria. I will settle them in their own homes,” declares the Lord.

When that day comes, your people will come to you from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, from Egypt to the Euphrates River, from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.

The Lord will terrify them, because he will make all the gods of the earth waste away. So every person from every coast and nation will bow to him.

He answered me, “They are going to build a house for it in Shinar [Babylonia]. When the house is ready, they will set the basket there on a stand.”

This is what the Lord of Armies says: I am going to save my people from the land where the sun rises and from the land where the sun sets.

and also Hamath, which borders on it, and Tyre and Sidon, though they are very wise. (The eyes of humanity and of all the tribes of Israel are on the Lord.)

If Israel’s rejection means that the world has been brought back to God, what does Israel’s acceptance mean? It means that Israel has come back to life.

In this way Israel as a whole will be saved, as Scripture says, “The Savior will come from Zion. He will remove godlessness from Jacob.

But whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

They are your people. They belong to you. You used your great strength and powerful arm to bring them out ⌞of Egypt⌟.
