People have deeply corrupted themselves as they once did at Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them because of their sins.

The Lord said to Moses, “Go back down there. Your people whom you brought out of Egypt have ruined ⌞everything⌟.

The earth is polluted by those who live on it because they’ve disobeyed the Lord’s teachings, violated his laws, and rejected the everlasting promise.

You people of Israel, return to the one whom you have so violently rebelled against.

This is what the Lord says about these people: They love to wander. They don’t keep their feet where they belong. So the Lord isn’t happy with them. He will remember their crimes and punish their sins.

“Son of man, prophesy. Tell them, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says about the Ammonites and their insults: A sword, a sword is drawn ready to kill. It’s polished to destroy and flash like lightning.

Israel, you have sinned ever since the incident at Gibeah. You never change. War will overtake the wicked people in Gibeah.

So the priests will be punished like the people. I will punish them for their wicked ways and pay them back for what they have done.

“Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah. Blow the trumpet in Ramah. Sound the alarm at Beth Aven, you descendants of Benjamin.

They don’t realize that I remember all the evil things they’ve done. Now their sins surround them. Their sins are in my presence.

They offer sacrifices to me and eat the meat of sacrifices, but I, the Lord, do not accept these sacrifices. Now I will remember their wickedness and punish them because of their sins. They will go back to Egypt.

Prophets are God’s watchmen over Ephraim. Yet, traps are set on every prophet’s path, and people are hostile in the temple of their God.

I said ⌞to my people⌟, ‘You will fear me. You will accept correction!’ Then their homeland would not be wiped out even though I have punished them. Still, they continued to be corrupt in everything they did.”

The Levite told him, “We’ll never go into a city of foreigners. They’re not Israelites. We’ll go on to Gibeah.”

That evening an old man came into the city from his work in the fields. He was from the mountain region of Ephraim but lived in Gibeah. The other people who lived there were from the tribe of Benjamin.

While they were enjoying themselves, some worthless men from the city surrounded the house and pounded on the door. They told the old man, the owner of the house, “Bring out the man who came to your house so that we can have sex with him.”

They closed in on the men of Benjamin and pursued them without stopping. They overtook them east of Gibeah.
