God's Word

They offer sacrifices to me and eat the meat of sacrifices, but I, the Lord, do not accept these sacrifices. Now I will remember their wickedness and punish them because of their sins. They will go back to Egypt.

The sacrifice of wicked people is disgusting, especially if they bring it with evil intent.

The Lord asks, “What do your many animal sacrifices mean to me? I’ve had enough of your burnt offerings of rams and enough fat from your fattened calves. I’m not pleased with the blood of bulls, lambs, or male goats.

This is what the Lord says about these people: They love to wander. They don’t keep their feet where they belong. So the Lord isn’t happy with them. He will remember their crimes and punish their sins.

Incense that comes from Sheba is no good to me. Sugar cane that comes from a distant land is no good to me. I won’t accept your burnt offerings. I’m not pleased with your sacrifices.

The nation of Israel will never trust Egypt again. The people of Israel will remember how wrong they were whenever they turned to Egypt ⌞for help⌟. Then they will know that I am the Almighty Lord.’ ”

“They will not return to Egypt. Instead, Assyria will rule them because they have refused to return to me.

The people of Gilead are evil. They are worthless. They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal. But their altars will become like piles of rubble beside a plowed field.

So the priests will be punished like the people. I will punish them for their wicked ways and pay them back for what they have done.

They go with their sheep and their cattle to search for the Lord, but they can’t find him. He has left them.

I want your loyalty, not your sacrifices. I want you to know me, not to give me burnt offerings.

Ephraim, you are like a silly, senseless dove. You call for Egypt and run to Assyria for help.

They don’t return to the Most High. They are like a defective bow. Their officials will die in battle because they curse. The people in Egypt will ridicule them for this.

They don’t realize that I remember all the evil things they’ve done. Now their sins surround them. Their sins are in my presence.

Even if they escape without being destroyed, Egypt will capture them and Memphis will bury them. Weeds will grow over their silver treasures. Thorns will grow over their tents.

The time for them to be punished will come. The time for them to pay for their sins will come. ⌞When this happens,⌟ Israel will know it. ⌞They think that⌟ prophets are fools and that spiritual people are crazy. They have sinned a lot, and they are very hostile.

People have deeply corrupted themselves as they once did at Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them because of their sins.

Out of all the families on earth, I have known no one else but you. That is why I am going to punish you for all your sins.

Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I won’t accept them. I won’t even look at the fellowship offerings of your choicest animals.

The Lord has sworn an oath by Jacob’s pride: “I will never forget anything that they have done.”

Nothing has been covered that will not be exposed. Whatever is secret will be made known.

When you gather in the same place, you can’t possibly be eating the Lord’s Supper.

Anyone who eats and drinks is eating and drinking a judgment against himself when he doesn’t recognize the Lord’s body.

Therefore, don’t judge anything before the appointed time. Wait until the Lord comes. He will also bring to light what is hidden in the dark and reveal people’s motives. Then each person will receive praise from God.

The Lord will bring you back to Egypt in ships  on a journey that I said you would never take again. There you will try to sell yourselves as slaves to your enemies, but no one will buy you.

The important city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. God remembered to give Babylon the Great the cup of wine from his fierce anger.

Then Samuel said, “Is the Lord as delighted with burnt offerings and sacrifices as he would be with your obedience? To follow instructions is better than to sacrifice. To obey is better than sacrificing the fat of rams.
