After he died, the officials of Judah bowed in front of the king with their faces touching the ground. Then the king listened to their advice.

But when people become crooked, the Lord will lead them away with troublemakers. Let there be peace in Israel!

The words from his mouth are ⌞nothing but⌟ trouble and deception. He has stopped doing what is wise and good.

A righteous person eats to satisfy his appetite, but the bellies of wicked people are always empty.

Recently, you changed and did what I consider right. You agreed to free your neighbors, and you made a promise in my presence, in the temple that is called by my name.

No one is wise enough to understand this. To whom has the Lord revealed this so that they can explain it? The land dies; it has been ruined like the desert so that no one can travel through it.

“But suppose a righteous person turns away from doing right and he does evil things. He does all the disgusting things that the wicked person did. Will he live? All the right things that he has done will not be remembered because of his unfaithfulness and because of his sin. He will die because of them.

Some of your people slander. They want to kill people. People who live in you eat food sacrificed to idols at the worship sites on the hills, and they sin sexually.

Yet, I will not punish your daughters when they become prostitutes or your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery. The men go to prostitutes and offer sacrifices with temple prostitutes. These foolish people will be trampled.

They all commit adultery. They are like a heated oven, an oven so hot that a baker doesn’t have to fan its flames when he makes bread.

I will destroy your food supply. Ten women will need only one oven to prepare your food. You will eat and go away hungry.

You will eat, but you won’t be full. So you will always be hungry. You will put things away, but you won’t save them. Anything you save I will destroy.

I will remove those who have turned away from following the Lord and those who no longer seek the Lord or ask him for help.”

You planted a lot, but you harvested little. You eat, but you’re never full. You drink, but you’re still thirsty. You wear clothing, but you never have enough to keep you warm. You spend money as fast as you earn it.
