Priests and prophets stagger from wine and wobble from too much liquor. They stagger from too much liquor and become confused from too much wine. They wobble because of their liquor. They stagger when they see visions. They swerve as they judge.

That is why I am going to do something completely amazing for these people once again. The wisdom of their wise people will disappear. The intelligence of their intelligent people will be hidden.”

“Children will oppress my people. Women will rule them. My people, your guides mislead you, and you don’t know which way to go.”

Those who guide these people lead them astray. Those who are guided by them will be destroyed.

My people ask their wooden idols for help. A piece of wood tells them what to do. A spirit of prostitution leads them astray. They commit adultery by giving themselves to other gods.

“This permanent law tells you how to make peace with the Lord once a year for all the sins the Israelites committed.” Aaron did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

You must bring the priest a ram that has no defects from the flock or its value in money for a guilt offering. The priest will make peace with the Lord for the wrong you did unintentionally (although you didn’t know what you did), and you will be forgiven.

Runners will not be able to escape. Strong men will find that their strength is useless. Soldiers will not be able to save themselves.

The priest will make peace with the Lord for the whole community of Israel. Then they will be forgiven because the wrongdoing was unintentional and they brought these two offerings to the Lord for their sin: an offering by fire and an offering for sin.

They can’t understand because they are in the dark. They are excluded from the life that God approves of because of their ignorance and stubbornness.

Instead, this yearly cycle of sacrifices reminded people of their sins.

We have this confidence as a sure and strong anchor for our lives. This confidence goes into the ⌞holy⌟ place behind the curtain

We need a priest who doesn’t have to bring daily sacrifices as those chief priests did. First they brought sacrifices for their own sins, and then they brought sacrifices for the sins of the people. Jesus brought the sacrifice for the sins of the people once and for all when he sacrificed himself.

Behind the second curtain was the part of the tent called the most holy place.
