Who did God swear would never enter his place of rest? He was talking about those who didn’t obey him.

The Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to trust me in spite of all the miraculous signs I have done among them?

None of those who treat me with contempt will see it!

I raised my hand and swore an oath to give you this land to live in. But none of you will enter it except Caleb (son of Jephunneh) and Joshua (son of Nun).

They died because they had returned and made the whole community complain about Moses by spreading lies about the land.

But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “You didn’t trust me! You didn’t show the Israelites how holy I am! So you will not bring this congregation into the land I’m giving them.”

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, he will see God’s constant anger.”

In the past, you disobeyed God. But now God has been merciful to you because of the disobedience of the Jewish people.

When the Lord sent you from Kadesh Barnea, he said, “Go and take possession of the land I’m giving you.” But you rebelled against the Lord your God’s word. You didn’t believe him or obey him.

So I angrily took a solemn oath that they would never enter my place of rest.”

So we must make every effort to enter that place of rest. Then no one will be lost by following the example of those who refused to obey.

We have heard the same Good News that your ancestors heard. But the message didn’t help those who heard it in the past because they didn’t believe.

However, some people enter that place of rest. Those who heard the Good News in the past did not enter God’s place of rest because they did not obey God.
