You have come to Jesus, who brings the new promise  from God, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better message than Abel’s.

The Lord asked, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground.

Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people and said, “Here is the blood which seals the promise that the Lord has made to you based on everything you have just heard.”

Open your ears, and come to me! Listen so that you may live! I will make an everlasting promise  to you— the blessings I promised to David.

Then slaughter the bull in the Lord’s presence. Aaron’s sons, the priests, will offer the blood. They will throw it against all sides of the altar that is at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

As a result, you will be held accountable for all the innocent blood of those murdered on earth. This includes the murder of Abel, who had God’s approval, to that of Zechariah, son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

This is my blood, the blood of the promise. It is poured out for many people so that sins are forgiven.

He said to them, “This is my blood, the blood of the promise. It is poured out for many people.

This includes the murders from Abel to Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the temple. Yes, I can guarantee this truth: The people living today will be held responsible for this.

When supper was over, he did the same with the cup. He said, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new promise  made with my blood.”

A mediator is not used when there is only one person involved, and God has acted on his own.

There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and humans—a human, Christ Jesus.

We have been sprinkled ⌞with his blood⌟ to free us from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with clean water. So we must continue to come ⌞to him⌟ with a sincere heart and strong faith.

Faith led Moses to establish the Passover and spread the blood ⌞on the doorposts⌟ so that the destroying angel would not kill the firstborn sons.

Faith led Abel to offer God a better sacrifice than Cain’s sacrifice. Through his faith Abel received God’s approval, since God accepted his sacrifices. Through his faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

The God of peace brought the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus, back to life through the blood of an eternal promise.

In this way Jesus has become the guarantee of a better promise.

God made this new promise and showed that the first promise was outdated. What is outdated and aging will soon disappear.

Jesus has been given a priestly work that is superior to the Levitical priests’ work. He also brings a better promise  from God that is based on better guarantees.

But God found something wrong with his people and said to them, “The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new promise to Israel and Judah.

Because Christ offered himself to God, he is able to bring a new promise from God. Through his death he paid the price to set people free from the sins they committed under the first promise. He did this so that those who are called can be guaranteed an inheritance that will last forever.

As Scripture tells us, Moses told all the people every commandment. Then he took the blood of calves and goats together with some water, red yarn, and hyssop and sprinkled the scroll and all the people.

In the same way, Moses sprinkled blood on the tent and on everything used in worship.

God the Father knew you long ago and chose you to live holy lives with the Spirit’s help so that you are obedient to Jesus Christ and are sprinkled with his blood. May good will  and peace fill your lives!
