Examine its embankments. Walk through its palaces. Then you can tell the next generation,

Pharaoh turned and went back to his palace. He dismissed the entire matter from his mind.

But those who didn’t take the Lord’s warning seriously left their servants and animals out in the open.

Let us look closely at our ways and examine them and then return to the Lord.

He realized what he was doing and turned away from all the rebellious things that he had done. He will certainly live. He will not die.

He said to me, “Son of man, look with your eyes, and listen with your ears. Pay close attention to everything I’m going to show you. You were brought here to be shown these things. Tell the nation of Israel everything that you see.”

He told me, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. God has heard everything that you said ever since the first day you decided to humble yourself in front of your God so that you could learn to understand things. I have come in response to your prayer.

The king was very displeased when he heard this. He tried every way he could think of to save Daniel. Until sundown he did everything he could to rescue him.

“Is it time for you to live in your paneled houses while this house lies in ruins?

You planted a lot, but you harvested little. You eat, but you’re never full. You drink, but you’re still thirsty. You wear clothing, but you never have enough to keep you warm. You spend money as fast as you earn it.

This is what the Lord of Armies says: Carefully consider your ways!

“Finally, he came to his senses. He said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more food than they can eat, while I’m starving to death here?

Examine yourselves to see whether you are still in the Christian faith. Test yourselves! Don’t you recognize that you are people in whom Jesus Christ lives? Could it be that you’re failing the test?

Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others.
