The Lord saw how evil humans had become on the earth. All day long their deepest thoughts were nothing but evil.

This is the tragedy of everything that happens under the sun: Everyone shares the same destiny. Moreover, the hearts of mortals are full of evil. Madness is in their hearts while they are still alive. After that, they join the dead.

“The human mind is the most deceitful of all things. It is incurable. No one can understand how deceitful it is.

Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart so that you may be rescued. Don’t continue making evil plans.

God asked me, “Son of man, do you see what the leaders of the nation of Israel are doing in secret? Each of them is in the room where his god is, and each one of them is thinking, ‘The Lord doesn’t see me. The Lord has abandoned this land.’ ”

He said to me, “Go in, and see the wicked, disgusting things that the people of Israel are doing here.”

Evil thoughts, murder, adultery, ⌞other⌟ sexual sins, stealing, lying, and cursing come from within.

“When the Son of Man comes again, it will be exactly like the days of Noah.

“When the Son of Man comes again, the situation will be like the time of Noah.

Someone may hear the conditions of this promise. He may think that he is so blessed that he can say, “I’ll be safe even if I go my own stubborn way. After all, ⌞the Lord would never⌟ sweep away well-watered ground along with dry ground.”

Indeed, we, too, were once stupid, disobedient, and misled. We were slaves to many kinds of lusts and pleasures. We were mean and jealous. We were hated, and we hated each other.

They are like those who disobeyed long ago in the days of Noah when God waited patiently while Noah built the ship. In this ship a few people—eight in all—were saved by water.
