I’m about to send a flood on the earth to destroy all people under the sky—every living, breathing human. Everything on earth will die.

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the earth  and blew the breath of life into his nostrils. The man became a living being.

God said to Noah, “I have decided to put an end to all people because the earth is full of their violence. Now I’m going to destroy them along with the earth.

Make a roof for the ship, and leave an 18-inch-high opening at the top. Put a door in the side of the ship. Build the ship with lower, middle, and upper decks.

So he said, “I will wipe off the face of the earth these humans that I created. I will wipe out not only humans, but also domestic animals, crawling animals, and birds. I’m sorry that I made them.”

A pair of every living, breathing animal came to Noah to go into the ship.

The flood continued for 40 days on the earth. The water increased and lifted the ship so that it rose high above the ground.

In seven days I will send rain to the earth for 40 days and 40 nights. I will wipe off the face of the earth every living creature that I have made.”

The Lord sat enthroned over the flood. The Lord sits enthroned as king forever.

I am making the Egyptians so stubborn that they will follow the Israelites. I will receive honor because of what I will do to Pharaoh, his entire army, his chariots, and cavalry.

I alone am the one who comforts you. Why, then, are you afraid of mortals, who must die, of humans, who are like grass?

“To me this is like Noah’s floodwaters, when I swore an oath that Noah’s floodwaters would never cover the earth again. So now I swear an oath not to be angry with you or punish you.

“ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: I will search for my sheep myself, and I will look after them.

“ ‘So this is what the Almighty Lord says to them: I will judge disputes between the fat sheep and the skinny sheep.

“So this is what the Almighty Lord says: I, too, am against you, and I will punish you in front of the nations.

Say this, ‘You mountains of Israel, listen to the Almighty Lord’s word! This is what the Almighty Lord says to the mountains and hills and to the ravines and valleys: I am going to attack you with a sword and destroy your worship sites.

I will be like a lion to Ephraim and like a young lion to the nation of Judah. I will carry ⌞them⌟ off, and no one will rescue ⌞them⌟.

I will fiercely resist you. I will discipline you seven times for your sins.

The one who builds stairs up to heaven and sets their foundation on the earth, the one who calls for the water in the sea and pours it over the face of the earth— His name is the Lord.

They were not aware of what was happening until the flood came and swept all of them away. That is how it will be when the Son of Man comes again.

People were eating, drinking, and getting married until the day that Noah went into the ship. Then the flood destroyed all of them.

As sin ruled by bringing death, God’s kindness would rule by bringing us his approval. This results in our living forever because of Jesus Christ our Lord.

The payment for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

See, I am the only God. There are no others. I kill, and I make alive. I wound, and I heal, and no one can rescue you from my power.

Faith led Noah to listen when God warned him about the things in the future that he could not see. He obeyed God and built a ship to save his family. Through faith Noah condemned the world and received God’s approval that comes through faith.

They are like those who disobeyed long ago in the days of Noah when God waited patiently while Noah built the ship. In this ship a few people—eight in all—were saved by water.

God didn’t spare the ancient world either. He brought the flood on the world of ungodly people, but he protected Noah and seven other people. Noah was his messenger who told people about the kind of life that has God’s approval.
