Abraham bought the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, east of Mamre in Canaan, from Ephron the Hittite to use as a tomb.
So the field and its cave were sold by the Hittites to Abraham as his property to be used as a tomb.
Then Abraham left the side of his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites,
“I’m a stranger with no permanent home. Let me have some of your property for a tomb so that I can bury my dead wife.”
His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah in the field of Ephron, son of Zohar the Hittite. The cave is east of Mamre.
