When they finished eating the grain they had brought from Egypt, Israel said to his sons, “Go back and buy us a little more food.”

If you let our brother go with us, we’ll go and buy food for you.

If you won’t let him go, we won’t go. The man said to us, ‘You won’t be allowed to see me again unless your brother is with you.’ ”

Then you told us, ‘If your youngest brother doesn’t come here with you, you will never be allowed to see me again.’

But the king said, “Absalom should return to his own house. He will not see me.” So Absalom returned to his house and didn’t see the king.

Absalom stayed in Jerusalem two full years without seeing the king.

Absalom answered Joab, “I sent someone to tell you to come here because I wanted to send you to the king to ask him why I had to come from Geshur. It would be better for me if I were still there. Let me see the king now! If I’m guilty of a sin, he should kill me.”

“Good!” David answered. “I’ll make an agreement with you. But there’s one condition: You can’t come to see me unless you bring Michal, Saul’s daughter, when you come.”

“Now I know that none of you whom I told about God’s kingdom will see me again.

The thought of not seeing Paul again hurt them most of all. Then they took Paul to the ship.

I’ve seen how my people are mistreated in Egypt. I’ve heard their groaning and have come to rescue them. So now I’m sending you to Egypt.’
