Then she became pregnant again and gave birth to another son, whom she named Shelah. He was born at Kezib.

Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Return to your father’s home. Live as a widow until my son Shelah grows up.” He thought that this son, too, might die like his brothers. So Tamar went to live in her father’s home.

Judah recognized them and said, “She’s not guilty. I am! She did this because I haven’t given her my son Shelah.” Judah never made love to her again.

Judah chose a wife for his firstborn son Er. Her name was Tamar.

The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah. (Er and Onan had died in Canaan.) The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

Judah’s sons were Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. The Lord considered Er, Judah’s firstborn, evil, so the Lord killed Er.

The descendants of Shelah, son of Judah, were Er, who first settled Lecah, Laadah, who first settled Mareshah, families of the guild of linen workers at Beth Ashbea,

Er and Onan were sons of Judah, but they died in Canaan.

The families descended from Judah were the family of Shelah, the family of Perez, and the family of Zerah.
