When the messengers came back to Jacob, they said, “We went to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you with 400 men.”

He drove all his livestock ahead of him and took all the possessions that he had accumulated. He took his own livestock that he had accumulated in Paddan Aram and went back to his father Isaac in Canaan.

“You have saved our lives,” they said. “Please, sir, we are willing to be Pharaoh’s slaves.”

It is like a person who flees from a lion only to be attacked by a bear. It is like a person who goes home and puts his hand on the wall only to be bitten by a snake.

Ruth replied, “Sir, may your kindness to me continue. You have comforted me and reassured me, and I’m not even one of your own servants.”

Ruth, who was from Moab, said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field of anyone who will be kind to me. There I will gather the grain left behind by the reapers.” Naomi told her, “Go, my daughter.”

“May you continue to be kind to me,” she said. Then the woman went her way and ate. She was no longer sad.
