Immediately, Abraham bowed with his face touching the ground. He laughed as he thought to himself, “Can a son be born to a hundred-year-old man? Can Sarah, a ninety-year-old woman, have a child?”

Sing with joy, you childless women who never gave birth to children. Break into shouts of joy, you women who never had birth pains. “There will be more children of women who have been deserted than there are children of married women,” says the Lord.

Cursed is the man who made my father very happy with the news that he had just become the father of a baby boy.

He will be your pride and joy, and many people will be glad that he was born.

Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had been very kind to her, and they shared her joy.

Be happy with those who are happy. Be sad with those who are sad.

Faith enabled Abraham to become a father, even though he was old and Sarah had never been able to have children. Abraham trusted that God would keep his promise.

“Sir,” Hannah said, “as sure as you live, I’m the woman who stood here next to you and prayed to the Lord.
