Genesis 18:1

God's Word

The Lord appeared to Abraham by the oak trees belonging to Mamre as he was sitting at the entrance of his tent during the hottest part of the day.

Then a soldier who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew what had happened. He was living next to the oak trees belonging to Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and Aner. (These men were Abram’s allies.)

So Abram moved his tents and went to live by the oak trees belonging to Mamre at Hebron. There he built an altar for the Lord.

Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in Canaan and blessed me.

The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Don’t go to Egypt. Stay where I tell you.

Stephen answered, “Brothers and fathers, listen to me. The God who reveals his glory appeared to our ancestor Abraham in Mesopotamia. This happened before Abraham lived in Haran.

That night God appeared to Solomon. He said, “What can I give you?”

When God finished speaking with Abraham, he left him.

Later the Lord spoke his word to Abram in a vision. He said, “Abram, don’t be afraid. I am your shield. Your reward will be very great.”

Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I’m going to give this land to your descendants.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

“They will never believe me or listen to me!” Moses protested. “They will say, ‘The Lord didn’t appear to you.’ ”

Faith led Abraham to live as a foreigner in the country that God had promised him. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who received the same promise from God.

Don’t forget to show hospitality to believers you don’t know. By doing this some believers have shown hospitality to angels without being aware of it.

From there the men turned and went on toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing in front of the Lord.

Abraham moved to the Negev and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While he was living in Gerar,

Jacob came home to his father Isaac to Mamre’s city, Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron). Abraham and Isaac had lived there for a while.

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you one of us or one of our enemies?”
