I will also give you as many descendants as the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust of the earth, then he could also count your descendants.

The descendants of Jacob are like specks of dust. Who can count them or number even one-fourth of the people of Israel? Let me die the death of innocent people. Let my end be like theirs.”

Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Through you and through your descendant every family on earth will be blessed.

But you did say, ‘I will make sure that you are prosperous and that your descendants will be as many as the grains of sand on the seashore. No one will be able to count them because there are so many.’ ”

I’m among your people whom you have chosen. They are too numerous to count or record.

Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel. You took an oath, swearing on yourself. You told them, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. I will give to your descendants all the land I spoke of. It will be their permanent possession.’ ”

I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies’ cities.

He took Abram outside and said, “Now look up at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He also said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”

After these things I saw a large crowd from every nation, tribe, people, and language. No one was able to count how many people there were. They were standing in front of the throne and the lamb. They were wearing white robes, holding palm branches in their hands,

I will multiply the descendants of my servant David and the Levites who serve me like the stars of heaven that cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore that cannot be measured.”

David didn’t count those under 20 years old, because the Lord had promised that the people of Israel would be as numerous as the stars in the sky.

Joab reported the census figures to David: In Israel there were 1,100,000 men who could serve in the army, and in Judah there were 470,000 who could serve in the army.

The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They ate and drank and lived happily.

Like swarms of locusts, they came with their livestock and their tents. They and their camels could not be counted. They came into the land only to ruin it.

Whenever Israel planted crops, Midian, Amalek, and Kedem came and damaged the crops.

The Lord your God has made your population increase so that you are now as numerous as the stars in the sky.

But the descendants of Israel had many children. They became so numerous and strong that the land was filled with them.

“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Don’t be afraid to go to Egypt, because I will make you a great nation there.

God also said to him, “I am God Almighty. Be fertile, and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will come from you.

May God Almighty bless you, make you fertile, and increase the number of your descendants so that you will become a community of people.

I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and give all these lands to your descendants. Through your descendant all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

Besides, I will make the slave’s son into a nation also, because he is your child.”

After all, Abraham is going to become a great and mighty nation and through him all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

I have heard your request about Ishmael. Yes, I will bless him, make him fertile, and increase the number of his descendants. He will be the father of 12 princes, and I will make him a great nation.

I will bless her, and I will also give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will become ⌞a mother of⌟ nations, and kings will come from her.”

I will give you many descendants. Many nations and kings will come from you.

Abraham was as good as dead. Yet, from this man came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the grains of sand on the seashore.

The Messenger of the Lord also said to her, “I will give you many descendants. No one will be able to count them because there will be so many.”

I will give you my promise, and I will give you very many descendants.”

But the Lord was kind and merciful to the Israelites because of his promise  to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He didn’t want to destroy the Israelites, and even now he hasn’t turned away from them.

Now, Lord God, you’ve kept the promise you made to my father David. You’ve made me king of people who are as numerous as specks of dust on the ground.

He stayed there that night. Then he prepared a gift for his brother Esau from what he had brought with him:

“You will find that your children are many and your descendants are like the grass of the earth.
