God's Word

I will make you a great nation, I will bless you. I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

I was with you wherever you went, and I destroyed all your enemies in front of you. I will make your name famous like the names of the greatest people on earth.

⌞Christ paid the price⌟ so that the blessing promised to Abraham would come to all the people of the world through Jesus Christ and we would receive the promised Spirit through faith.

After all, Abraham is going to become a great and mighty nation and through him all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

God also said to him, “I am God Almighty. Be fertile, and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will come from you.

“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Don’t be afraid to go to Egypt, because I will make you a great nation there.

I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and give all these lands to your descendants. Through your descendant all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

“The Lord has blessed my master, and he has become wealthy. The Lord has given him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, male and female slaves, camels and donkeys.

You must understand that people who have faith are Abraham’s descendants.

But the descendants of Israel had many children. They became so numerous and strong that the land was filled with them.

I will also give you as many descendants as the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust of the earth, then he could also count your descendants.

He took Abram outside and said, “Now look up at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He also said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”

You will make this formal statement in the presence of the Lord your God: “My ancestors were wandering Arameans. There were only a few of them when they went to Egypt and lived as foreigners. But then they became a great, powerful, and large nation.

Now leave me alone. I’m so angry with them I am going to destroy them. Then I’ll make you into a great nation.”

Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Through you and through your descendant every family on earth will be blessed.

May nations serve you. May people bow down to you. Be the master of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed. May those who bless you be blessed.”

When God destroyed the cities on the plain, he remembered Abraham. Lot was allowed to escape from the destruction that came to the cities where he was living.

Abraham’s faith was the basis of his approval by God while he was still uncircumcised. The mark of circumcision is the seal of that approval. Therefore, he is the father of every believer who is not circumcised, and their faith, too, is regarded as the basis of their approval by God.

I’ll strike them with a plague, I’ll destroy them, and I’ll make you into a nation larger and stronger than they are.”

Furthermore, the royal officials have come ⌞to congratulate⌟ His Majesty King David, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon’s name more famous than yours and his reign greater than your reign.’ The king himself bowed down on his bed

You will be faithful to Jacob. You will have mercy on Abraham as you swore by an oath to our ancestors long ago.

I have chosen him so that he will direct his children and his family after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. In this way I, the Lord, will do what I have promised Abraham.”

By now Abraham was old, and the Lord had blessed him in every way.

After Abraham died, God blessed his son Isaac, who settled near Beer Lahai Roi.

Live here in this land for a while, and I will be with you and bless you. I will give all these lands to you and your descendants. I will keep the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.

But God said to Balaam, “Don’t go with them! Don’t curse these people, because they are blessed.”

I have received a command to bless. He has blessed, and I can’t change it.

He blesses them, and their numbers multiply, and he does not allow a shortage of cattle.

I will bless them and the places around my hill. I will send rain at the right time. These showers will be a blessing to them.

Just as you, people of Judah and people of Israel, have been a curse among the nations, so I will now save you, and you will become a blessing. Don’t be afraid. Let your hands work hard.

I have heard your request about Ishmael. Yes, I will bless him, make him fertile, and increase the number of his descendants. He will be the father of 12 princes, and I will make him a great nation.

Your wickedness affects only someone like yourself. Your righteousness affects only the descendants of Adam.

Look to Abraham, your ancestor, and to Sarah, from whom you are descended. When I called Abraham, he was childless. I blessed him and gave him many descendants.
