In the tent of meeting outside the canopy where the words of my promise are, Aaron and his descendants must keep the lamps lit in the Lord’s presence from evening until morning. This is a permanent law among the Israelites for generations to come.”

God named the light day, and the darkness he named night. There was evening, then morning—the first day.

God named ⌞what was above⌟ the horizon sky. There was evening, then morning—a second day.

They sacrifice burnt offerings to the Lord every morning and every evening. They offer sweet-smelling incense and rows of bread on the clean  table. The lamps on the gold lamp stand burn every evening. We’re following the instructions the Lord our God gave us, but you have abandoned him.

Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, all who stand in the house of the Lord night after night.

“This day will be one for you to remember. This is a permanent law for generations to come: You will celebrate this day as a pilgrimage festival in the Lord’s honor.

Aaron put the jar of manna in front of the words of God’s promise to be kept there, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Then you will put into the ark the words of my promise which I will give you.

Aaron and his sons must wear them when they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near the altar to serve as priests in the holy place. Then they will be blameless and won’t die. “This is a permanent law for him and his descendants.”

It is a permanent law that the Israelites give this portion to Aaron and his sons as a contribution. This will also be their contribution to the Lord from the fellowship offerings.

“For generations to come this will be the daily burnt offering ⌞made⌟ in the Lord’s presence at the entrance to the tent of meeting. There I will meet with you to speak to you.

I will dedicate the tent of meeting and the altar for their holy purposes. I will set Aaron and his sons apart for their holy duties of serving me as priests.

they will wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This will be a permanent law for him and his descendants for generations to come.”

Grind some of it into a fine powder, and put it in front of ⌞the ark containing⌟ the words of my promise in the tent of meeting, where I will meet with you. You must treat it as most holy.

Also, when Aaron lights the lamps at dusk, he must burn incense. For generations to come an incense offering must burn constantly in the Lord’s presence.

Place the ark containing the words of my promise inside it, and hang the canopy over the ark.

“You and your sons must not drink any wine or liquor when you go into the tent of meeting, or you will die. This is a permanent law for generations to come.

“This permanent law tells you how to make peace with the Lord once a year for all the sins the Israelites committed.” Aaron did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

The people must stop sacrificing to goat idols and chasing after them as though they were prostitutes. This is a permanent law for the people and for future generations.

Don’t eat bread, roasted grain, or fresh grain until this same day, when you bring the offering to your God. It is a permanent law for generations to come wherever you live.

Make an announcement that there will be a holy assembly on that same day. Don’t do any regular work. It is a permanent law for generations to come wherever you live.

“Command the Israelites to bring you pure, virgin olive oil for the lamp stand so that the lamps won’t go out.

In the tent of meeting, outside the canopy where the words of my promise are, Aaron must keep the lamps lit in the Lord’s presence from evening until morning. It is a permanent law for generations to come.

The bread will belong to Aaron and his sons. They will eat it in a holy place. It is very holy, set apart from the Lord’s offering by fire. This is a permanent law.”

This is a permanent law for generations to come wherever you live: Never eat any fat or blood.”

Place your hand on the animal’s head. Slaughter it in front of the tent of meeting. Then Aaron’s sons will throw the blood against the altar on all sides.

One of them will remove a handful of flour from the grain offering, together with the olive oil and all the incense. He will burn it on the altar as a reminder. It is a soothing aroma to the Lord.

The Lord commanded the Israelites to give it to them on the day he anointed them. This is a permanent law for generations to come.”

“A priest’s lips should preserve knowledge. Then, because he is the messenger for the Lord of Armies, people will seek instruction from his mouth.

Only the Levites will do the work at the tent of meeting. They will be responsible for their own sins. This is a permanent law for future generations. They will own no property as the other Israelites will.

“You must be in charge of the work done at the holy place and at the altar. Then I won’t show my anger against the Israelites again.

This will be a permanent law for them. “Whoever sprinkles the water to take away uncleanness must wash his clothes. And whoever touches this water will be unclean until evening.

“These will be the rules for future generations wherever you live.

Bring the Levites to the front of the tent of meeting, and assemble the whole community of Israel.

The people who lived in darkness have seen a bright light. A light has risen for those who live in a land overshadowed by death.”

“Be ready for action, and have your lamps burning.

John was a lamp that gave off brilliant light. For a time you enjoyed the pleasure of his light.

We are his servants because the same God who said that light should shine out of darkness has given us light. For that reason we bring to light the knowledge about God’s glory which shines from Christ’s face.

So we regard the words of the prophets as confirmed beyond all doubt. You’re doing well by paying attention to their words. Continue to pay attention as you would to a light that shines in a dark place as you wait for day to come and the morning star to rise in your hearts.

“To the messenger of the church in Ephesus, write: The one who holds the seven stars in his right hand, the one who walks among the seven gold lamp stands, says:

The lamp in God’s temple  hadn’t gone out yet, and Samuel was asleep in the temple of the Lord where the ark of God was kept.

From that time on he made this a rule and a custom in Israel as it is to this day.
