The Lord said to Moses, “Write this reminder on a scroll, and make sure that Joshua hears it, too: I will completely erase any memory of the Amalekites from the earth.”

After Saul died and David returned from defeating the Amalekites, David stayed in Ziklag two days.

So Joshua defeated the Amalekite army in battle.

So Moses wrote down all the Lord’s words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain and ⌞set up⌟ 12 sacred stones for the 12 tribes of Israel.

The Lord answered Moses, “I will wipe out of my book whoever sins against me.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down these words, because on the basis of these words I’m making a promise to Israel and to you.”

The name of a righteous person remains blessed, but the names of wicked people will rot away.

“This is what the Lord God of Israel says: Write in a book everything that I tell you.

“Take a scroll, and write on it everything that I have dictated to you about Israel, Judah, and all the other nations from the time I spoke to you during the reign of Josiah until today.

Then Balaam saw the Amalekites and delivered this message: “Amalek was first among the nations, but in the end it will be destroyed.”

At the Lord’s command Moses wrote down the places where they went as they traveled. This is the list:

Moses wrote down these teachings and gave them to the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the Lord’s promise and to all the leaders of Israel.

You should answer, ‘The water of the Jordan River was cut off in front of the ark of the Lord’s promise. When the ark crossed the Jordan, the river stopped flowing. These stones are a permanent reminder for the people of Israel.’ ”

And the Lord sent you on a mission. He said, ‘Claim those sinners, the Amalekites, for me by destroying them. Wage war against them until they’re wiped out.’

Two days later, when David and his men came to Ziklag, the Amalekites had raided the Negev, including Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it.

From dawn until evening the next day, David attacked them. No one escaped except 400 young men who rode away on camels.
