Exodus 17:1

God's Word

The whole community of Israelites left the desert of Sin and traveled from place to place as the Lord commanded them. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.

Moses led Israel away from the Red Sea into the desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.

The whole community of Israelites moved from Elim and came to the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai. This was on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left Egypt.

The Amalekites fought Israel at Rephidim.

Israel had moved from Rephidim and had come into the desert of Sinai. They had set up camp there in front of the mountain.

Since the community was without water, they came together to confront Moses and Aaron.

Whenever the smoke moved from the tent, the Israelites would break camp, and wherever it stopped, the Israelites would set up camp.

At the Lord’s command they set up camp, and at his command they broke camp. They obeyed the command that the Lord had given through Moses.
