Exodus 16:4

God's Word

The Lord said to Moses, “I’m going to send you food from heaven like rain. Each day the people should go out and gather only what they need for that day. In this way I will test them to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.

They were under orders from the king, orders that determined which duties they should perform day by day.

You gave them bread from heaven to satisfy their hunger and made water flow from a rock to quench their thirst. You told them to take possession of the land that you swore you would give them.

You gave them your good Spirit to teach them. You didn’t keep your manna to yourself. You gave them water to quench their thirst.

The Israelites asked, and he brought them quail and filled them with bread from heaven.

In spite of that, he commanded the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven.

Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed  him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the Lord set down laws and rules for them to live by, and there he tested them.

When the Israelites saw it, they asked each other, “What is this?” because they didn’t know what it was. Moses said to them, “It’s the food the Lord has given you to eat.

Keep vanity and lies far away from me. Don’t give me either poverty or riches. Feed me ⌞only⌟ the food I need,

Give us our daily bread today.

Give us our bread day by day.

All of them ate the same spiritual food,

He was the one who fed you in the desert with manna, which your ancestors had never seen. He did this in order to humble you and test you. But he also did this so that things would go well for you in the end.

Remember that for 40 years the Lord your God led you on your journey in the desert. He did this in order to humble you and test you. He wanted to know whether or not you would wholeheartedly obey his commands.

But if you don’t want to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Even if you choose the gods your ancestors served on the other side of the Euphrates or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live, my family and I will still serve the Lord.”
