When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, act immediately because the Lord has gone ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.”

They die suddenly in the middle of the night. People have seizures and pass away. Mighty people are taken away but not by human hands.

Isn’t it you, O God, who rejected us? Isn’t it you, O God, who refused to accompany our armies?

These are the instructions God set in place for Joseph when Joseph rose to power over Egypt. I heard a message I did not understand:

“On that same night I will go throughout Egypt and kill every firstborn male, both human and animal. I will severely punish all the gods of Egypt, ⌞because⌟ I am the Lord.

The Lord will go throughout Egypt to kill the Egyptians. When he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, he will pass over that doorway, and he will not let the destroyer come into your home to kill you.

At midnight the Lord killed every firstborn male in Egypt from the firstborn son of Pharaoh who ruled the land to the firstborn son of the prisoner in jail, and also every firstborn animal.

The Lord marches out like a warrior. He prepares himself for battle like a soldier. He shouts, gives the battle cry, and overpowers his enemies.

I sent plagues on you as I did to Egypt. With swords I killed your best young men along with your captured horses. I made the stench from your camps fill your noses. And you still didn’t return to me, declares the Lord.

There will be loud crying in every vineyard, because I will pass through your land ⌞with death⌟. The Lord has said this.

⌞The Lord⌟ will open the way and lead them. They will break out, go through the gate, and leave. Their king will travel in front of them. The Lord will lead the people.

“At midnight someone shouted, ‘The groom is here! Come to meet him!’
