If they were chosen by God’s kindness, they weren’t chosen because of anything they did. Otherwise, God’s kindness wouldn’t be kindness.

Not one person can have God’s approval by any effort to follow the laws in the Scriptures. These laws show what sin is.

If Abraham had God’s approval because of something he did, he would have had a reason to brag. But he could not brag to God about it.

Before the children had been born or had done anything good or bad, Rebekah was told that the older child would serve the younger one. This was said to Rebekah so that God’s plan would remain a matter of his choice,

Therefore, God’s choice does not depend on a person’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

God saved us and called us to be holy, not because of what we had done, but because of his own plan and kindness. Before the world began, God planned that Christ Jesus would show us God’s kindness.
