Jacob’s sons came in from the open country as soon as they heard the news. The men felt outraged and very angry because Shechem had committed such a godless act against Israel’s family by raping Jacob’s daughter. This shouldn’t have happened.

“No,” she told him, “don’t rape me! That shouldn’t be done in Israel. Don’t do this godless act!

Better to meet a bear robbed of its cubs than a fool ⌞carried away⌟ with his stupidity.

As a dog goes back to its vomit, ⌞so⌟ a fool repeats his stupidity.

A fool starts out by talking foolishness and ends up saying crazy things that are dangerous.

Then I turned ⌞my attention⌟ to experience wisdom, madness, and foolishness. For instance, what can the man who replaces the king do? Only what has already been done.

I thought to myself, “⌞If⌟ the destiny that waits for the fool waits for me as well, then what is the advantage in being wise?” So I thought that even this is pointless.

Then I fell into despair over everything for which I had worked so hard under the sun.

The spokesman said, “This is what I’ve found: I added one thing to another in order to find a reason for things.

“Get up! Tell the people, ‘Get ready for tomorrow by performing the ceremonies to make yourselves holy. This is what the Lord God of Israel says: You have what I claimed for myself, Israel. You will not be able to defend yourselves against your enemies until you get rid of what I have claimed.
