When Isaac was old and going blind, he called his older son Esau and said to him, “Son!” Esau answered, “Here I am.”

Israel’s eyesight was failing because of old age, and he could hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to his father, and Israel hugged them and kissed them.

One deep sea calls to another at the roar of your waterspouts. All the whitecaps on your waves have swept over me.

You have made me endure many terrible troubles. You restore me to life again. You bring me back from the depths of the earth.

The water saw you, O God. The water saw you and shook. Even the depths of the sea trembled.

Each of us lives for 70 years— or even 80 if we are in good health. But the best of them ⌞bring⌟ trouble and misery. Indeed, they are soon gone, and we fly away.

The stars in the sky and their constellations won’t show their light anymore. The sun will be dark when it rises. The moon won’t shine.

On that day they will roar over their prey as the sea roars. If they look at the land, they will see only darkness and distress. Even the light will be darkened by thick clouds.

The sun and the moon will turn dark. The stars will no longer shine.

“Immediately after the misery of those days, the sun will turn dark, the moon will not give light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the universe will be shaken.

One night Eli was lying down in his room. His eyesight had begun to fail so that he couldn’t see well.

(Eli was 98 years old, and his eyesight had failed so that he couldn’t see.)

When the messenger mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell from his chair backwards toward the gate. He broke his neck, and he died. (The man was old and heavy.) He had judged  Israel for 40 years.
