God's Word

You were chosen because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors. So he used his mighty hand to bring you out. He freed you from slavery under Pharaoh (the king of Egypt).

When he hesitated, the men grabbed him, his wife, and his two daughters by their hands, because the Lord wanted to spare Lot. They brought them safely outside the city.

It was not with their swords that they took possession of the land. They did not gain victory with their own strength. It was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your presence ⌞that did it⌟, because you were pleased with them.

Since you are precious to me, you are honored and I love you. I will exchange others for you. Nations will be the price I pay for your life.

In all their troubles he was troubled, and he was the Messenger who saved them. In his love and compassion he reclaimed them. He always held them and carried them in the past.

The Lord appeared to me in a faraway place and said, “I love you with an everlasting love. So I will continue to show you my kindness.

“So tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: I am about to do something, people of Israel. I will not do this for your sake but for the sake of my holy name, which you have dishonored among the nations wherever you have gone.

I brought you out of Egypt and freed you from slavery. I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to lead you.

You will be faithful to Jacob. You will have mercy on Abraham as you swore by an oath to our ancestors long ago.

The Lord your God is with you. He is a hero who saves you. He happily rejoices over you, renews you with his love, and celebrates over you with shouts of joy.

“I loved you,” says the Lord. “But you ask, ‘How did you love us?’ “Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “I loved Jacob,

Yes, Father, this is what pleased you.

This is the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and his descendants.”

The Good News made the Jewish people enemies because of you. But by God’s choice they are loved because of their ancestors.

I’m giving you this land. Enter, and take possession of the land the Lord swore to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to you, their descendants.”

The Lord set his heart on your ancestors and loved them. Because of this, today he chooses you, their descendants, out of all the people of the world.

Never offer them peace or friendship as long as you live.

You certainly love your people. All your holy ones are in your hands. They bow at your feet to receive your instructions.

But you are the people the Lord brought out of Egypt, the iron smelter, in order to make you his own people as you still are today.

Or has any god ever tried to come and take one nation away from another for himself? The Lord your God used his mighty hand and powerful arm to do this for you in Egypt. He did this using plagues, miraculous signs, amazing things, and war. He did his great and awe-inspiring deeds in front of you.

Because he loved your ancestors and chose their descendants, he was with you as he brought you out of Egypt by his great power.

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery in Egypt.

We love because God loved us first.

For the sake of his great name, the Lord will not abandon his people, because the Lord wants to make you his people.
