The Lord was king of Jeshurun when the leaders of the people assembled together with all the tribes of Israel.

These were the kings who ruled Edom before any king ruled the people of Israel:

The Lord will rule as king forever and ever.”

Whenever they have a disagreement and bring it to me, I decide which person is right, and I tell them God’s laws and instructions.”

Now listen to me, and I’ll give you some advice. May God be with you! You must be the people’s representative to God and bring their disagreements to him.

The Lord made you, formed you in the womb, and will help you. This is what the Lord says: Don’t be afraid, my servant Jacob, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

He doesn’t want any trouble for the descendants of Jacob. He sees no misfortune for the people of Israel. The Lord their God is with them, praised as their king.

Jeshurun  got fat and disrespectful. (You got fat! You were stuffed! You were gorged!) They abandoned the God who made them and treated the rock of their salvation like a fool.

“There’s no one like your God, Jeshurun! He rides through the heavens to help you. In majesty he rides through the clouds.

In those days Israel didn’t have a king. Everyone did whatever he considered right.

The men of Israel said to Gideon, “You, then your son, and then your grandson, must rule us. You rescued us from Midian.”

He said, “Please ask all citizens of Shechem, ‘What seems best to you? Do you really want all of Jerubbaal’s 70 sons to rule you or just one man? Remember, I’m your own flesh and blood.’ ”
