Deuteronomy 24:19

God's Word

This is what you must do when you’re harvesting wheat in your field. If you forget to bring in one of the bundles of wheat, don’t go back to get it. Leave it there for foreigners, orphans, and widows. Then the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.

The Lord blessed the latter years of Job’s life more than the earlier years. He had 14,000 sheep and goats, 6,000 camels, 2,000 oxen, and 1,000 donkeys.

He gives freely to poor people. His righteousness continues forever. His head is raised in honor.

Whoever despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is the one who is kind to humble people.

Whoever has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his good deed.

But honorable people act honorably and stand firm for what is honorable.

“When you harvest the grain in your land, don’t harvest the grain in the corners of your fields or gather what is left after you’re finished. Leave it for poor people and foreigners. I am the Lord your God.”

Rather, love your enemies, help them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then you will have a great reward. You will be the children of the Most High God. After all, he is kind to unthankful and evil people.

Give, and you will receive. A large quantity, pressed together, shaken down, and running over will be put into your pocket. The standards you use for others will be applied to you.”

Foreigners, orphans, and widows who live in your cities may come to eat all they want. The Levites may also come because they have no land of their own as you have. Then the Lord your God will bless you in whatever work you do.

Be sure to give to them without any hesitation. When you do this, the Lord your God will bless you in everything you work for and set out to do.

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God freed you from slavery. So I’m commanding you to do this.

When you have distributed all that was stored, say to the Lord your God, “Nothing is left of the holy offering stored in my house. I distributed it to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows as you commanded me. I disobeyed none of your commands, and I didn’t forget to do what you commanded.

Even pull some grain out of the bundles and leave it for her to gather. Don’t give her a hard time about it.”

Ruth, who was from Moab, said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field of anyone who will be kind to me. There I will gather the grain left behind by the reapers.” Naomi told her, “Go, my daughter.”
