When you make a loan to your neighbor, don’t go into his house to take a security deposit.

For no reason you take your brothers’ goods as security for a loan and strip them of their clothes.

If you take any of your neighbor’s clothes as collateral, give it back to him by sunset.

It may be the only clothes he has to cover his body. What else will he sleep in? When he cries out to me, I will listen because I am compassionate.

Be generous to these poor people, and freely lend them as much as they need. Never be hard-hearted and tight-fisted with them.

Wait outside, and the person to whom you’re making the loan will bring the deposit out to you.
