This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: The Lord God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the world. And he has ordered me to build a temple for him in Jerusalem (which is in Judah). May the Lord God be with all of you who are his people. You may go.

The head of this statue was made of fine gold. Its chest and arms were made of silver. Its stomach and hips were made of bronze.

Another kingdom, inferior to yours, will rise to power after you. Then there will be a third kingdom, a kingdom of bronze, that will rule the whole world.

Darius the Mede took over the kingdom. He was 62 years old.

This man, Daniel, prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Your Majesty, issue this decree, and sign it. According to the law of the Medes and Persians no one could change it or repeal it.”
