You say to yourselves, “When will the New Moon Festival be over so that we can sell more grain? When will the day of rest—a holy day, be over so that we can sell more wheat? We can shrink the size of the bushel baskets, increase the cost, and cheat with dishonest scales.

Her husband asked, “Why are you going to him today? It isn’t a New Moon Festival or a day of rest—a holy day.” But she said goodbye to him.

If you stop trampling on the day of rest and doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the day of rest a delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way, by not going out when you want, and by not talking idly,

⌞The Lord says,⌟ “The merchants use dishonest scales. They love to cheat people.

The people of Ephraim say, ‘We’re rich. We’ve made a fortune. With all this wealth, no one will find us guilty of any sin.’

Use honest scales, honest weights, and honest measures. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt.

“What is it?” I asked. “A basket is coming,” he said. Then he added, “This is what the people’s sins look like all over the earth.”

The angel said, “This is wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and forced the lead cover down on top of it.

“You say, ‘Oh what a nuisance it is,’ and you sniff at it in disgust,” says the Lord of Armies. “You bring stolen, lame, and sick animals. When you bring such offerings, should I accept them from you?” asks the Lord.

Also, on your festival days and on the first day of the month, blow the trumpets when you sacrifice your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. The trumpets will be a reminder for you in God’s presence. I am the Lord your God.”

Therefore, let no one judge you because of what you eat or drink or about the observance of annual holy days, New Moon Festivals, or weekly days of rest—holy days.

David replied, “Tomorrow is the New Moon Festival, when I should sit and eat at the king’s ⌞table⌟. But let me go and hide in the countryside for two more nights.
