God's Word

The Almighty Lord has sworn an oath on himself. The Lord God of Armies declares: I am disgusted with Jacob’s pride, and I hate his palaces. So I will hand over the city and everything in it.

I take an oath on myself, declares the Lord, that Bozrah will become a pile of rubble. It will become something horrifying, ridiculed, ruined, and cursed. All its cities will lie in ruins permanently.

The Lord of Armies has taken an oath on himself: “I will certainly fill you with many enemy armies. They will swarm like locusts. People will shout their victory over you.”

The Lord became an enemy. He swallowed up Israel. He swallowed up all of its palaces. He destroyed its strongholds. He made the people of Judah mourn and moan.

‘Tell the nation of Israel, “This is what the Almighty Lord says: I’m going to dishonor my holy place. You brag that my holy place gives you strength. It’s the thing you love the most. It’s your hearts’ desire. So the sons and daughters that you left behind will die in battle.

War will sweep through their cities, demolish their city gates, and put an end to their plans.

“I will put my tent among you, and I will never look at you with disgust.

I will destroy your worship sites, cut down your incense altars, and pile your dead bodies on top of your dead idols. I will look at you with disgust.

Those who collect profits in their palaces through violent and destructive acts don’t know how to do what is right, declares the Lord.

This is what the Almighty Lord says: An enemy will surround your land, strip you of your defenses, and loot your palaces.

The Almighty Lord has taken an oath on his holiness: Surely, the time is going to come when you will be taken away on hooks, and the rest of you on fishhooks.

I hate your festivals; I despise them. I’m not pleased with your religious assemblies.

On that day the songs of the temple will become loud cries,” declares the Almighty Lord. “There will be dead bodies scattered everywhere. Hush!”

The Lord has sworn an oath by Jacob’s pride: “I will never forget anything that they have done.”

I got rid of three shepherds in one month. I became impatient with the sheep, and they also became disgusted with me.

The Lord saw this and rejected them, because his own sons and daughters had made him angry.
