At that time, as the number of disciples grew, Greek-speaking Jews complained about the Hebrew-speaking Jews. The Greek-speaking Jews claimed that the widows among them were neglected every day when food and other assistance was distributed.

I received a blessing from the dying. I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.

“If I have refused the requests of the poor or made a widow’s eyes stop ⌞looking for help⌟,

Your people will volunteer when you call up your army. Your young people will come to you in holy splendor like dew in the early morning.

May there be plenty of grain in the land. May it wave ⌞in the breeze⌟ on the mountaintops, its fruit like ⌞the treetops of⌟ Lebanon. May those from the city flourish like the grass on the ground.

Learn to do good. Seek justice. Arrest oppressors. Defend orphans. Plead the case of widows.”

In times to come Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom, bud, and fill the whole world with fruit.

The people who live there will sing songs of praise, and the sound of laughter will be heard from there. I’ll make them numerous, and their number won’t decrease. I’ll bring them honor, and they won’t be considered unimportant.

People in you hate their fathers and mothers. They oppress foreigners in you. They oppress orphans and widows in you.

“I will come to judge you. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers, lying witnesses, and those who cheat workers out of their wages and oppress widows and orphans. I will also testify against those who deprive foreigners of their rights. None of them fear me,” says the Lord of Armies.

“How horrible it will be for you, experts in Moses’ Teachings and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. You don’t enter it yourselves, and you don’t permit others to enter when they try.

But other believers, who were from Cyprus and Cyrene, arrived in Antioch. They started to spread the Good News about the Lord Jesus to Greeks.

After finding Saul, Barnabas brought him back to Antioch. Barnabas and Saul met with the church in Antioch for a whole year and taught a large group of people. The disciples were called Christians for the first time in the city of Antioch.

All the disciples in Antioch decided to contribute whatever they could afford to help the believers living in Judea.

Those who accepted what Peter said were baptized. That day about 3,000 people were added ⌞to the group⌟.

From time to time, they sold their property and other possessions and distributed the money to anyone who needed it.

At the same time, they praised God and had the good will of all the people. Every day the Lord saved people, and they were added to the group.

The twelve apostles called all the disciples together and told them, “It’s not right for us to give up God’s word in order to distribute food.

God’s word continued to spread, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem grew very large. A large number of priests accepted the faith.

He talked and argued with Greek-speaking Jews, but they tried to murder him.

So Peter went with them. When he arrived, he was taken upstairs. All the widows stood around him. They were crying and showing Peter the articles of clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

Peter took her hand and helped her stand up. After he called the believers, especially the widows, he presented Tabitha to them. She was alive.

If your gift is serving, then devote yourself to serving. If it is teaching, devote yourself to teaching.

Don’t complain as some of them did. The angel of death destroyed them.

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I.

Every third year is the year when you will store a tenth of that year’s crops ⌞in your houses⌟. During that year distribute what you have stored to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows in your cities, and they may eat all they want.

I was circumcised on the eighth day. I’m a descendant of Israel. I’m from the tribe of Benjamin. I’m a pure-blooded Hebrew. When it comes to following Jewish laws, I was a Pharisee.

Honor widows who have no families.

Any widow who had only one husband and is at least 60 years old should be put on your list ⌞of widows⌟.

Continue to love each other.

Pure, unstained religion, according to God our Father, is to take care of orphans and widows when they suffer and to remain uncorrupted by this world.

Do you think this passage means nothing? It says, “The Spirit that lives in us wants us to be his own.”

Brothers and sisters, stop complaining about each other, or you will be condemned. Realize that the judge is standing at the door.
