Acts 28:15

God's Word

Believers in Rome heard that we were coming, so they came as far as the cities of Appius’ Market and Three Taverns to meet us. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and felt encouraged. So we finally arrived in the city of Rome.

Wait with hope for the Lord. Be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Yes, wait with hope for the Lord.

Then the Lord became angry with Moses and asked, “What about your brother Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He’s already on his way to meet you, and he will be very glad to see you.

So they took palm branches and went to meet him. They were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel!”

At a time when about 120 disciples had gathered together, Peter got up and spoke to them. He said,

Peter asked the men to come into the house and had them stay overnight. The next day Peter left with them. Some disciples from Joppa went along.

When Peter was about to enter Cornelius’ house, Cornelius met him, bowed down, and worshiped Peter.

The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that people who were not Jewish had accepted God’s word.

The Spirit told me to go with them without any hesitation. Six believers ⌞from Joppa⌟ went with me, and we visited Cornelius’ home.

Peter motioned with his hand to quiet them down and told them how the Lord had taken him out of prison. He added, “Tell James and the other believers about this.” Then he left and went somewhere else.

When our time was up, we started on our way. All of them with their wives and children accompanied us out of the city. We knelt on the beach, prayed,

In Puteoli we discovered some believers who begged us to spend a week with them.

Now I am on my way to Spain, so I hope to see you when I come your way. After I have enjoyed your company for a while, I hope that you will support my trip to Spain.

But I thank God, who always leads us in victory because of Christ. Wherever we go, God uses us to make clear what it means to know Christ. It’s like a fragrance that fills the air.

Even though my illness was difficult for you, you didn’t despise or reject me. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were God’s messenger  or Christ Jesus himself.

So brothers and sisters, your faith has encouraged us in all our distress and trouble.

Remember those in prison as if you were in prison with them. Remember those who are mistreated as if you were being mistreated.

“I have commanded you, ‘Be strong and courageous! Don’t tremble or be terrified, because the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’ ”

David was in great distress because the people in their bitterness said he should be stoned. (They were thinking of their sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.)
